GET INVOLVED

The park will be developed in two phases over a time period of several years. The first phase involves the major groundwork, including earth moving, engineering, and lots of heavy equipment. The second phase is what we'd consider the "fun" phase: selecting and placing play equipment, planting trees, dedicating benches, etc. WE NEED YOUR HELP in both phases! Please consider getting involved in one or more areas listed below.

Events
The park will be officially "open" in Summer 2008. Help us get ready by participating in the following events:
Come to our "Pints for the Park" Events on the
first Tuesdays of July and August: July 1st and August 5th at the Double Mountain Brewery at 8 Fourth Street in Hood River, 4-8 PM.

Also, we need volunteers to help staff the Gorge Games Mountain Biking Event, Friday & Saturday, July 18-19 at 9am both days. For more details or to sign up, please contact www.gorgegames.net. Please note when signing up to volunteer that you choose "Waterfront Community Park" as the organization you represent so we receive credit.

On March 1, 2008, we hosted a very successful Groundbreaking Party & Fundraiser at The Pines Tasting Room in Hood River. The event raised $25,000. Thanks to all who attended!

Our Waterfront Park Spring Splash Fundraiser Auction, which took place on in April 2007 at Westwind Gallery in Hood River, raised over $32,000.

Send us an e-mail if you'd like to be added to our mailing list to get period updates. Also, look for information tables at Hood River First Fridays, as well as at other community events.

Committees
The WCPA has three major committees: Fundraising, Public Relations/Marketing, and Parents & Children.

  • If you'd like to help with Fundraising, which could include everything from event planning to staffing at events, please contact Ann Frodel at afrodel@gorge.net.
  • If you'd like to assist with Public Relations and/or Marketing, please contact Jane Parker at janeparker@gorge.net.
  • Are you a parent? Contact Marianne Brevard at mariannebrevard@yahoo.com to have input into the children's play area and other areas that are of importance to families.

If you would consider donating materials, send us an e-mail to be added to our database. You'll be notified of specific volunteer opportunities as they develop.
